DeadMan's Handle secure file deletion software kits
DeadMan's Handle is made up of several software kits. This page describes the different types and components. Basically, there are two groups:
- The time-limited trial, which is made up of one installation component.
- The full purchased kit, which is made up of three components.
Time-limited trial
This is available for download from this site. This comprises one installation kit, which is in zipped file format. This kit is fully functional in its secure file deletion except for the fact that it will work for only 30 days until it deletes itself. It has none of the extra components that the purchased version has.
Purchased version
The purchased version may be bought from this site, using secure purchasing systems. The laptop utility software is made up of three kits, all of which are downloadable once the product has been purchased:
- The core kit, which has the same functionality as the time-limited version (without, of course, being time-limited).
- The Add-ons pack. This is made up of a large number of extra challenge screens, to allow variation in the challenge appearance. In addition, there are a large number of random number state files, allowing the system's random number generator to be initialised to different states on different machines.
- The Tools pack. These tools are designed for general corporate use. They include utilities such a challenge screen design aid and a registry exporter for corporate rollouts.
Currently, the Add-ons pack is made up of some 70 challenge screens and 1000 random number files. These are being added to constantly. Whilst the tools are currently stable, it is envisaged that further tools will be produced as DeadMan's Handle is developed further.
CD Distribution
Single licence purchasers can download all three kits from this site. However, purchasers of 10 or more licences will also get all the kits, associated documentation and many of the papers on this site on CD. Naturally, this site will always contain the latest version of the kits, tools, white papers and any other documentation.
